President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has sought advice from the World Bank to improve the growth of the country’s economy.

‘We asked about Indonesia’s economic outlook, its shortcomings and how we could improve. This is important for addressing our weaknesses,” Jokowi said at the Bogor Palace in West Java after meeting with World Bank Indonesia representative Rodrigo Chaves on Tuesday as reported by tribunnews.com.

Jokowi said input from various institutions, including the World Bank, would help his administration improve its various policies and programs.

After the meeting, Chaves said the World Bank’s representatives had discussed details about the domestic and global economy with President Jokowi and called on the Indonesian government to make improvements to the quality of Indonesia’s human resources.

He said improved human resources would help accelerate both economic and investment growth.

President Jokowi has already implemented a vocational school and training program to improve the country’s human resources and has described human resources development as his administration’s second highest priority after infrastructure development.

The President criticized universities, particularly economy faculties, for not pursuing innovation in the face of a changing world.

“Economics faculties only offer limited programs like accountancy, management and economic development, while the world has already changed,” he said. (bbn, The Jakarta Post)
