Govt to complete 15 more irrigation dams in 2019. The Public Works and Housing Ministry has said the ministry will complete the construction of 15 more dams this year to support the irrigation system in regions across country after the ministry completed the construction of 14 dams in 2018.
To develop the 29 dams, the ministry has allocated Rp40 trillion (US$2.83 billion) from the state budget.
“The projects are part of a planned 65 dam projects that will be completed by 2023 with a total allocation of Rp 84 trillion,” Public Works and Housing Ministry Water Resources Director General Hari Suprayogi said recently as quoted by kompas.com.
The official said several dams that had been completed in 2018 were not yet operational. “Several dams like those in Sindangheula [in Serang], Sei Gong [in Batam], and Gondang [in Central Java] will be operational in May,” he said.
Other dams will be built in Aceh, West Java, East Java, Bali, East Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.
Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the construction of dams took between three and five years.
The 15 dams to be completed this year are those in Gongseng, Karalloe, Tapin, Passeloreng, Bintang Bano, Way Sekampung, Ladongi, Napun Gete, Ciawi, Sukamahi, Karian, Keureuto, Gondang, Marangkayu and Kuningan
Meanwhile, 10 projects will start construction this year in Jenelata, Pelosika, Jragung, Digoel, Tiro, Mbay, Budong-Budong, Ameroro, Tiu Suntuk and Bulango Ulu. Govt to complete 15 more irrigation dams in 2019 (bbn, The Jakarta Post)
