Indonesia ranks 7th among world’s top 10 gold producers.  The GFMS Gold Survey 2018 has listed Indonesia, with gold production of 154.3 tons in 2017, among the top 10 gold-producing countries in the world.

The survey shows that China, the world’s number-one gold producer, has retained its crown with gold production of 426.1 tons. However, this was a 6 percent decrease from the previous year, as the government escalated its efforts to fight pollution and increase environmental awareness.

The GFMS survey ranked Australia second with total production of 295 tons, followed by Russia (270.7 tons), the United States (230 tons), Canada (175.8 tons), Peru (162.3 tons), Indonesia (154.3 tons), South Africa (139.9 tons), Mexico (130.5 tons) and Ghana (101.7 tons).

The GFMS survey also shows that global gold production reached 3,247 tons in 2017, 5 tons less than the previous year.

According to Wednesday’s report on chinadaily.com.cn, this was the first annual drop since 2008, which the survey attributed to environmental concerns and crackdowns on illegal mining operations.
