The projected electricity demand of the five oil refineries is 217 mega volt amperes (MVA) that could be expanded to an additional supply of 104 MVA, Pertamina manufacturing director Budi Santoso Syarif said in Jakarta on Friday.

“The PLN electricity service will be implemented in two stages and will help Pertamina save Rp2.79 trillion annually,” said Budi, who recently signed the agreement in Jakarta with PLN corporate planning director Syofvi Delienty Roekman.

Budi said the oil refineries needed a large and stable supply of electricity, and that if PLN could fulfill their electricity demand, it would boost Pertamina’s efficiency. “We hope that PLN is able to meet our electricity demand,” he said.

Meanwhile, Syofvi said that PLN was ready to meet the electricity needs of Pertamina’s refineries. “We are ready to provide high-quality services in supplying electricity to the refineries for both their transmission [networks] and power plants,” she said.

Syofvi added that PLN had signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with third-party electricity producers to generate 32,295 megawatts (MW) of electricity as part of the 35,000 MW national electricity program.

In the initial step, Pertamina would provide PLN with the power data for each refinery, which PLN would then review to prepare the appropriate networks, said Syofvi. PLN to supply electricity to five Pertamina refineries  (bbn, The Jakarta Post)
