Previously, Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia aimed to produce 2 million cars by 2025, 20 percent of which would be electric vehicles.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla has stressed that the government would fully support any companies interested in developing electric cars, by offering incentives in the form of import duty cuts for spare parts required for manufacturing.
The development of environmentally friendly electric cars was a challenge that required serious effort by all parties, said Kalla at the opening an automotive conference as part of the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2017 in Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten.
The Vice President also stressed that the government would prepare the infrastructure, particularly an adequate electricity supply, to assure that car owners would not encounter difficulties charging the batteries of their vehicles.
“Don’t worry about electricity because the government has the 35,000 Mega Watt (MW) program,” said Kalla referring to the ongoing electricity infrastructure development project in which the government aims to develop power plants with a combined capacity of 35,000 MW across the country by 2019.
